Research Infrastructure (RI): national consortia

Good research infrastructure is essential for creating and maintaining a robust research system. Two preconditions of such infrastructure are wide accessibility and good structural funding. NWO stimulates the establishment and upgrades of largescale research facilities and research infrastructure that enable the Netherlands to capture and hold its prominent international position.

With this instrument, NWO aims to strengthen the RI available to the research community in the Netherlands. The instrument focuses on designing innovative RI that is of (inter)national importance, which can be used to achieve innovations and breakthroughs with a high value for science, society, and business. Proposals may be submitted by national consortia from all academic disciplines. A broad group of relevant representatives in the field from across the Netherlands must be involved at an early stage (when writing the proposal) and given a relevant role in governance.
